Our Name

Why The Gathering Community Church?

Names say something. This is true in our lives, in the Bible, and at the Gathering Community Church. We have chosen the name The Gathering on purpose. Words like “Church”, which once meant something rich and unique, can lose their edge through the constant clutter of use. “Church” is commonly understood in our culture as a building used for public Christian worship.

We believe the church is not a building but the gathered community of those who call on Jesus alone for forgiveness, purpose and peace. The bible teaches us that Jesus died in order to:

gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.” John 11:52

This desire has been the prayer of people through the ages. Even in the darkest times God taught his people to pray:

Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.Psalm 106:47

Worldwide a growing number of diverse races, backgrounds, and cultures gather to worship Jesus Christ, who is our central defining purpose in life.

We are a community church that gathers consistently to worship and honor Jesus for the work He has done through the weekly rhythms of our lives.
